My journey started with a passion for sport and optimising health and performance.
My path into sport and nutrition started as a competitive swimmer, training hard without ever quite understanding why I wasn't progressing like my peers. I stepped away from the sport at 16, not competing anymore but still loving sport, I chose to study A levels aiming for a degree in Sport & Exercise Science, just to stay close to it.
That degree turned out to be far broader than I expected, but I found my niche quickly: physiology and nutrition. I never missed a lecture, though academic writing didn't come naturally and took real work to develop! Three years later I graduated with First Class Honours from Liverpool John Moores University, and my growing love of research led me back to LJMU for a Master's and then a PhD in Exercise Metabolism and Nutrition. My PhD was one of the most challenging periods of my life, but one that built resilience I still rely on; science rarely goes to plan the first time.
Alongside seven years of study, I took on placements and part-time roles, including one at Beat, the UK's leading eating disorder charity demanding work that ended up shaping one of my key specialisms. During this time I also rediscovered my own love of doing sport, returning to swimming and taking up cycling and running. Triathlon became a big part of my life, bringing me lifelong friends, my partner, and the chance to apply my own knowledge to my own performance.
After my PhD, I became a Lecturer in Nutrition. I loved working with students, but found it hard to pursue research at the institution I worked at and felt increasingly isolated. So alongside lecturing, I became a Registered Nutritionist with the Association for Nutrition and Emily Jevons Nutrition began. Over the following years I built my business working 1-1 with athletes and a variety of companies including Science in Sport, PhD Nutrition, British Cycling, David Lloyd, the FuelHQ, Feisty Media, Swim with Jazz, and FAST & Female, before eventually stepping away from lecturing to practice full-time.
That path led me to my current role in professional sport with WorldTour cycling team Picnic–PostNL, alongside continuing to grow my consultancy.
At 18, starting university with a vague idea of a career in sport, I never imagined where it would lead and I’m forever grateful for all my clients who trust me with your nutrition needs.
